How do you tell if an avocado is ripe?

1. Look for an avocado that has a dark green AND black skin.
2. The bottom of the avocado should feel slightly soft when you press gently with your finger.
3. Lightly press on the stem. If it gives slightly, the avocado is just right to eat today. If the stem does not give, allow the avocado to ripen 2-3 days. If the stem easily pushes into the avocado, it may be past its prime.
