Baby Boomers Coffee CinnamonCoffee and Cinnamon – Healthy and Delicious

I love my morning coffee, my afternoon coffee, and sometimes even my early evening coffee.

And the latest news on coffee is all health positive. So now, I can enjoy my coffee guilt-free, assuming I leave out the sugary creamers and sweeteners.

Unfortunately, I do like my coffee flavored. This means purchasing flavored beans—a pricey alternative to that brand that rhymes with ‘soldiers’, or adding a high-calorie flavored sweetener. (How many pumps do you add when you grab a cup at that place that rhymes with, ‘trucks’?)

Bummer! Coffee is good, sugary flavoring and sweeteners, not so much.

I guess I had better learn to love my coffee straight up…

Or…

Bring on the sweet taste of Cinnamon!

It’s amazing what a tablespoon of cinnamon will accomplish. Adding ground cinnamon to fresh ground beans brews a mighty tasty pot of coffee. And as luck would have it, a very healthy pot of coffee as well!

Now I have the best of both worlds, flavored coffee without added calories.

Plus, look at all these health benefits:

Coffee has been shown to protect against

  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Heart rhythm problems and stroke
  • Liver disease (Not sure if that means I can drink more beer. Hmmm?)
  • Liver cancer
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia
  • Depression

(Sources: Mayo Clinic, March 2014, Web MD,  Archive.)

Cinnamon made our Dynamic Dozen list of healthy herbs and spices.

  • Cinnamon is a strong antioxidant
  • An anti-inflammatory
  • Will lower blood sugar levels for Type 2 Diabetes
  • And promotes cardiovascular health

So what are you waiting for?

Go brew yourself a fresh pot of cinnamon flavored coffee! (My favorite is ground Saigon cinnamon for its sweet, spicy flavor.)

If you don’t brew by the pot, (Keurig, etc.) or are grabbing a cup to go, just stir a bit right in. You’ll love the taste, and it will love you back with a cupful of health benefits.

Until next time,

All the best!
