The Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, the HIV/AIDS epidemic – the baby boomers have seen it all. This year, the last boomer will turn 50. In a new American Masters documentary, The Boomer List, filmmaker and photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders interviewed some of the most notable figures from the 1946-1964 generation. The film features 19 iconic boomers – one born each year of the baby boom. MORE

Boomers at the Movies! Pierce Brosnan stars in The November Man.

November ManThe good news is, at 61, Brosnan can still play an action star. The bad news is, The November Man is an average movie at best.

Most of the film plays like a video game as bullets fly and people die–lots of people die. Fortunately, the killing is seldom grotesque by today’s Hollywood standards.

Unfortunately, the plot is exactly up to today’s Hollywood standard. Well I have not read the book the movie is based on, I have to believe bullets and chase scenes were substituted for most of the plot.

That said, Brosnan is still fun to watch on the big screen, and he is a boomer after all. If a wild ride is your thing, this movie’s fast pace will not disappoint. If, like my wife, Pierce Brosnan is your thing, you’ll likely love the movie. For the rest of us, the book may be a better choice.

Over the years we’ve heard about many different “generations” — from the Greatest Generation to Generation X. Now, thanks to the American Masters series on PBS, the Baby Boomer generation gets the spotlight with The Boomer List premiering September 23rd, a documentary from filmmaker/ photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.

American Masters: The Boomer List executive producer, Michael Kantor explained the reason for the show: “This year marks an important shift in American culture, as the last baby boomers turn 50. This documentary tells of the influential generation through the lives of various iconic boomers, those born from 1946 to 1964.” MORE

You may question a few of the boomers selected to represent their birth year, but it should be an interesting series nevertheless. Mark your boomer calendar for September 23rd!

Movie Review By Peter Howell, Movie Critic

And So It Goes –  another pandering boomer rom-com: review

and_so_it_goes.jpg.size.xxlarge.letterboxPure schmaltz masquerading as life wisdom, it pairs Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton for no apparent reason other than that they fit the elder baby boomer cohort the film is squarely aimed at. Read Entire Review

While the critic pans the movie, Baby Boomers Know How would love to know your opinion. Please add it to the comments section below.

From the Boomers Know How Editors: We went to see  And So It Goes on its opening weekend. For the most part we agree with Peter Howell’s review. Schmaltz – yes; Oscar material – probably not; entertaining – surprisingly, yes! The movie starts a bit slow, and is definitely predictable. However, the give-and-take between Douglas and Keaton garnered a fair amount of laughter. If you are the sentimental type, you may even activate a tear duct a time or two. For those of us in the 55+ age group, we rate And So It Goes worth the price of a matinee ticket.
